Buildings For Our Future
“Building For Our Future” (BFOF) is an initiative to renovate four aging Portland elementary schools. Targeted improvements will address 21st century learning values, safety and security, and greater equity in Portland’s schools.
In 2017, City voters approved a $64 million Building for our Future Bond to renovate four elementary schools
Those four elementary schools are Lyseth Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School, Presumpscot Elementary School, and Reiche Community School. The Lyseth project was completed in 2021 and, as of the summer of 2022, renovations were underway at Longfellow, Presumpscot and Reiche schools.
BFOF projects are shepherded by a District Advisory Building Committee (DABC), as well as individual Building Level Advisory Committees (BLAC) for each school. The District has contracted with Harriman, a local architectural, engineering, and planning firm, to design these schools.
