K-2 WORD STUDY
As a part of our comprehensive approach to literacy instruction in grades K-2, we have a dual approach to word study for all learners. First, there is a "Jump Start" to each school year, in which for the first 6 weeks, teachers provide phonics instruction for about 15 minutes a day using
Lively Letters
.
In addition, each classroom begins to use the phonics units of study from Teachers College. There are 4-5 units of study that unfold over the school year for instruction and application of phonics and word study skills tailored to each grade level. We call this part of the day Word Study, as it teaches all aspects of the standards connected to word knowledge.
